Sean Kelley

Research Intern

Originally from Parkersburg, WV, I am currently an undergraduate senior in the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics supporting research as the Northrop Grumman Research and Innovation Scholar in SuperUROP.  In addition to research and academics, I am a certificated Private Pilot, the Vice President and Treasurer of the MIT Flying Club, and a member of the MIT Ice Hockey team.

As a SuperUROP Undergraduate Researcher in the Laboratory for Aviation and the Environment, I am supporting research focused on the application of electro-aerodynamic propulsion for fixed-wing aircraft under the MIT Electric Aircraft Initiative.  This work compliments my interests in aircraft design and electric propulsion technology, and has the potential to mitigate many of the current problems plaguing traditional aircraft operations.  Requiring no moving parts nor onboard propellant, this near-silent system may one day help replace traditional aircraft propulsion systems and contribute to a cleaner environment.
