Fields: Electrohydrodynamic Propulsion
Former Lab Role: Research intern [until 2013]
I am a freshman from Corvallis Oregon. This is my freshman year at MIT, where I am exploring the fields of aerospace and mechanical engineering. My work at LAE is focused on the EHD (electrohydrodynamic) propulsion project. We are testing the potential use of EHD in aircraft as a more efficient means of propulsion. EHD thrusters have no moving parts and use only the surrounding air as a propellant. Small scale tests have shown EHD to provide thrust to power ratios higher than the alternative propulsion methods. The goal of this project is to determine if the technology can be scaled up for practical application.
Nathaniel left LAE in 2013.
