I was born and brought up in Mumbai, India, and am currently working towards my PhD in the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at MIT. My research focuses on improving the efficiency of the air transportation network. I am working with my advisor Prof. Hamsa Balakrishnan on the application of network congestion control techniques to surface operations at airports. Our aim is to develop advanced control techniques that greatly reduce the total fuel burn and emissions impact of aircraft in the neighborhood of airports. At the same time, we also ensure that these new techniques are acceptable to the users – the air traffic controllers and the pilots – and can be implemented with gradual changes to current operational procedures.
