I was born and raised in the colorful city of Calcutta, India, and I attained a Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from Purdue University in the US. My passion for aviation and my concern for nature and the environment brought me to the Laboratory for Aviation and the Environment, here at MIT. As the focus gradually shifts from conventional jet fuel to alternative jet fuels, I find myself questioning the larger implications to the environment and the economy. My research is aimed at assessing the ‘bigger picture’, in terms of the benefits of biofuel and its effects on energy security, independence, employment and price stability both in the immediate future as well as in the long run. An appropriate cost-effectiveness analysis will aid in understanding how various fuels will interact with the demand and supply forces within the aviation and non-aviation transportation sectors.
